Corn Snake (Pantherophis guttatus)

Corn snakes are a favourite beginner snake — active, handleable, and available in dozens of beautiful colour morphs. They are native to the southeastern United States.

Housing

An adult corn snake is comfortable in a 40-gallon (150L) enclosure. They are excellent escape artists so a secure lid is essential. Provide hides, branches for climbing, and substrate deep enough to burrow.

Temperature & Humidity

  • Warm side: 80–85°F (27–29°C)
  • Cool side: 70–75°F (21–24°C)
  • Humidity: 40–50% (raise slightly during shedding)

Feeding

Feed pre-killed or frozen/thawed mice. Hatchlings eat pinky mice weekly; adults eat adult mice every 7–10 days.

Handling

Corn snakes become very tame with regular gentle handling. They are active and curious, making handling sessions engaging for both keeper and snake.
